Moved by movement

My friend shared this link today on Facebook and,
This is Billy Bell and his choreography, his heart--put out there in movement.
I've gone through the debate of the "language of the arts" countless times with individuals specializing in different disciplines and despite my belief to acknowledge and understand the validity of both sides of an argument, this is the one topic that I stand my ground for...

Movement is a language of our body, every single choreographed moment is a word our body wants to speak. When choreographers move with a message in mind, muscles that are connected to the blood that pumps from our heart...SPEAKS. So even if you may not understand the language, acknowledge its existence and the heart behind it.

  1. I love this. The dance and what you wrote. Thank you :)

I always look at dance as a poem. I love poetry because of how bare and raw it can be and the same with dance. And being bare and raw doesn't have to be a showcase for sad, mad or hate but whatever emotion the artist needs to share. Yes even us at our happiest can be a very intimate door to our soul.

Movement in place of words don't change the fact that an intimate story is being created and shared and that story is personal and universal to make those reading/watching feel and/or think past our own shell into something richer in hopes that we understand and/or feel truth and not just be consumed by the trappings of life.
